Add-on · Change of agent

Switching agents is a filing, not a phone call — and the gap between agents is where companies get hurt.

Founders change agents because the old one was a free-year upsell that renewed at triple, because scans sat unread in a portal, or because the company is consolidating onto one desk. Whatever the reason, the mechanics matter: the state record must name a serving agent at all times, and service of process does not pause while paperwork moves.

$199 assistance, plus state fees at cost — take the intake quiz or go to checkout.

How the change runs

  • Consent first. The incoming agent accepts the appointment before anything is filed — some states, Texas among them, require the agent’s consent on the record.
  • The change filing goes to the office that holds your charter, naming the new agent and registered office. Our assistance is $199; the state’s fee is separate, at cost.
  • Continuity check. The old agent’s service runs until the change is recorded. We sequence the filings so the public record never shows a company with no agent — the state of affairs that starts dissolution clocks and loses lawsuits.
  • Confirmation. The recorded change is mirrored to your portal, and your compliance calendar is updated to the new agent’s renewal cycle.

Moving onto the Sethhost desk

When the change brings your company to Sethhost, the agent of record becomes CorpNet, Incorporated, our disclosed wholesale partner, and the mail protocol and calendar of Hosted take over from the recorded date. The full mechanics — consent, resignation filings, and why address-only “changes” do not count — are walked through in our change-of-agent guide.

The honest edges

A change of agent does not move your annual report duty, cure a lapsed year, or transfer documents held in a former agent’s portal — retrieve those before you cancel anything, a sequence we will plan with you explicitly. And a do-it-yourself address edit on a state website is not a change of agent unless the state records it as one.

Filing processing fee: 3% of the total order amount, charged by our fulfillment provider, CorpNet, where it applies to your order, including on pass-through charges within the order. It is shown as its own itemized line at checkout and is not Sethhost revenue.

Questions on this filing

Will my old agent charge me to leave?

That depends on your agreement with them — typically service runs to the end of the paid term. What we control is the state record: the new appointment is filed so coverage is continuous either way.

Can I change agents mid-year?

Yes. Agent changes are not tied to renewal windows; they take effect when the state records them.

My agent already resigned. Is it too late?

Usually not, but the clock is real: states give a window to appoint a successor before administrative consequences begin. Treat it as urgent and start the intake today.
